Distress or Stress off Massage

Massage can help alleviate the effects of both stress and distress, but it is important to understand the difference between the two. Stress is a normal response to changes, whereas distress occurs when a stressor becomes severe, prolonged, or is perceived as being beyond your ability to cope. For distress, massage may be a beneficial part of a broader wellness plan, but for certain severe conditions, it can be contraindicated and should not be performed.
